What They Catch From You

Children rarely remember every instruction. But they remember what happened when tension rose and patience ran thin.

They notice what you reach for when money is tight. They hear how you speak when someone disappoints you. They watch what you do after you lose your temper, make a mistake, or realize you were wrong.

Faith is often handed down in that way.

Not through a single crisis, but through small, repeated choices. A short prayer before someone walks out the door. An apology offered without excuses. A Bible open beside a cup of coffee. A decision to do what is right when retaliation would feel better.

The generations coming after us don’t need a flawless example. They need a faithful one.

A sincere faith doesn’t pretend life is easy. It says, “This is hard, but God is still good.” It wrestles, repents, and returns to Jesus. Then it gets up and keeps walking.

We all leave something in the lives we touch. Possessions may make life easier for a while, but a lived faith can outlast us. It can travel through children, friends, and generations we may never meet.

You don’t have to try so hard to leave some big legacy today.

Choose one small, visible habit—like praying out loud before leaving the house or opening your Bible each morning—and let others see what following Him looks like in real time.

Read: 2 Timothy 1:3-7

3 I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my forefathers did, as I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day, 4 longing to see you, even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelled in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.

Reflect: What are the people closest to you learning about God from the way you live when life gets difficult?
