What Flowers Cannot Fix

A bouquet can be beautiful and still avoid the real problem.

Flowers cannot replace an apology. A generous gift cannot repair what pride refuses to admit. Sometimes the impressive gesture is easier than the honest conversation.

The people in Micah’s day tried something similar with God. When confronted with the condition of their hearts, they offered bigger sacrifices. Thousands of rams. Rivers of oil. Anything costly enough to prove their devotion.

But God was not asking for a grand display.

He had already made His desire clear: do what is right, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him.

These are not dramatic acts performed for attention. They are daily choices. Tell the truth when a lie would protect you. Show compassion when resentment feels justified. Admit when you have caused harm. Let God direct your response, even when obedience doesn’t produce the outcome you hoped for.

Humility doesn’t mean thinking less of yourself. It means trusting God enough to stop defending yourself. It’s choosing healing over winning and faithfulness over appearances.

God isn’t impressed by what we place in His hands while we keep our hearts closed. He wants the part of us that still argues, hides, and resists. That’s where renewal begins.

Read: Micah 6:6-8

6 With what shall I come to the Lord
And bow myself before the God on high?
Shall I come to Him with burnt offerings,
With yearling calves?
7 Does the Lord take pleasure in thousands of rams,
In ten thousand rivers of oil?
Shall I give Him my firstborn for my wrongdoings,
The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8 He has told you, mortal one, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justice, to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?

Reflect: Where might God be asking you to choose humble obedience over protecting your pride?
