Imagine standing before a scale — not to measure your weight, but your worth.
In ancient times, people used scales to weigh silver, grain, and even sacrifice. But some cultures believed something deeper. In Egypt, they thought your heart would be placed on a scale after death, weighed against a feather. If it wasn’t light enough, a demon would devour it. In the book of Daniel, a king was told, “You have been weighed in the balance and found wanting.” He died that same night.
That’s heavy. And it makes you wonder, what would happen if your life was weighed on a scale?
The truth is, none of us measure up. No matter how much we give or how good we try to be, the scale never balances. Our sin weighs us down. So we try to even it out with good works or religious effort. But it’s not enough.
That’s where Jesus steps in. The cross wasn’t a counterweight. It was a complete tipping point.
He didn’t just balance it. He didn’t match the law with just enough goodness. He fulfilled it — and then tipped it in our favor with His mercy. He bore the weight of our failure, our greed, our injustice. And He tipped the scale with something we could never earn: grace.
If we’ve been rescued by that grace, what are we doing with it?
Are we holding on to it? Or are we giving it away?
Mercy and grace are treasures from heaven. They don’t corrode like silver. They aren’t stolen like gold. And they’re not meant to be hoarded. They’re meant to be spent.
