James ends his letter with a direct challenge. If you are suffering, pray. If you are cheerful, sing praise. If you are sick, invite others to pray for you in faith.
Prayer is not an extra part of the Christian life. It is our lifeline to God.
Yet many of us hesitate to ask for prayer. Shame can make us hide. Pride can keep us silent. We may even think, “This is my fault, so I should deal with it alone.” But God does not ask how we ended up here. He simply invites us to come. Healing is His work. Restoration is what He does.
Sometimes His answer comes quickly. Other times it unfolds slowly. Both are miracles. Even if the wait feels long, keep asking. Keep believing. Let others carry you in prayer when your strength is low.
Even leaders have had to persevere in prayer. John Wimber once prayed for over a thousand people before seeing one healed, but he went on to lead a powerful healing ministry. Don’t let delay convince you to stop asking.
Whether it comes through your faith, someone else’s faith, or God’s sheer mercy, He still heals. He still forgives. He still restores.
If you are weary or hurting, take a step toward Him today. Come to God. Come to those who will pray for you. It may be time to step forward.
Based on the message, “Healing and the Power of Prayer” by Pastor James Marano
Read: James 5:13-20
13 Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. 18 Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.
19 My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
Reflect: What’s one need or struggle you should start bringing to God in prayer again?
