Sick of Waiting

Sick of waiting. You know the feeling. Waiting for test results that never seem to come. Wishing for the job call that doesn’t ring. Hoping that the empty chair at the table would finally be filled.

Proverbs says it simply: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.” Waiting is hard. Deferred hope can weigh heavy on the heart.

But hope in God is not wishful thinking. It’s confidence that He keeps His word. Hebrews calls hope an anchor for the soul, steady when the storm rages. Prayer keeps that anchor planted. It means surrendering what you can’t fix and trusting God with the timing, even if it means another doctor’s appointment or another month of bills that feel too tight.

When God answers, whether quickly or after a long wait, it’s like water returning to a dry riverbed. Empty places are filled. Hope brings real change into places that once felt lifeless.

If your hope feels delayed, don’t confuse God’s silence with absence. God is faithful to what He says and to when He acts. His timing may stretch you, but His faithfulness will not fail you.

Read: Proverbs 13:12

Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

Reflect: Where have you been waiting the longest for God to move, and how can you lean into His faithfulness there?
