Most plants only grow as large as the pot they’re in. When their roots have no more room, they stop stretching, stop reaching. Sometimes, God allows a season that feels cramped, not because He’s punishing us, but because He’s preparing to transplant us.
Just as a plant needs richer soil to thrive, our faith needs deeper truth to grow. Paul said, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” That’s the mystery of the gospel: God Himself living in us. The One who holds galaxies has chosen to dwell in fragile, moldable hearts, like clay in the hands of a potter. But if we’re honest, we often fill that space with other things: philosophies that sound wise, rules that promise holiness, or pleasures that distract. We settle for small pots when God invites us to deeper soil.
Pause for a moment and think about the places in your life where you’ve felt confined or comfortable for too long. To be “rooted and built up in Him” means letting go of every substitute for Christ and allowing His presence to become the center again. When we choose Him daily, our roots push past the limits of comfort, breaking new ground where His glory takes hold.
Read: Colossians 2:6-7
6 Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.
Reflect: Where is God inviting you to make room for Him to grow something deeper?
